"A Celebration of National Coming OUT Day"
In celebration of National Coming OUT Day, Phoenix Pride hosts the Creative Expressions Contest. We encourage the entire community to submit their personal coming out stories in essay, art, dance, music, or any other creative expression. Winners of the contest are invited to share their stories at our annual OUTdayPHX event at Rainbows Festival in October.
OUTdayPHX is an event created to recognize, promote and celebrate “National Coming OUT Day,” an internationally-observed civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) issues and is observed annually on October 11th.
While Phoenix Pride places emphasis on having events and programs like OUTdayPHX at public venues (like Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix) to promote public awareness about LGBTQ issues, we place equal importance and encouragement on introducing the metropolitan Phoenix community to OUT celebrity role models who are willing to share their unique stories with event attendees, sometimes with considerable risk to their careers.
OUTdayPHX is celebrated in conjunction with the two-day Rainbows Festival, a celebration of diversity and unity.
