Phoenix Pride Community Foundation Announces Community Grant Recipients

Phoenix – Four organizations have been selected to receive “organization capacity grants” from the Pride Community Grant Fund, administered by Arizona Community Foundation. Organization Capacity Grants are intended to support efforts to strengthen the operations of nonprofit organizations serving LGBTQ community in Maricopa County.Grant applications can address areas such as, new program/service development and implementation; enhancement of existing programs/services and/or stabilizing and sustaining current programs or services.

Grants will be awarded to the following organizations: 1n10 will receive a grant of $12,500 to support the expansion of their LGBTQ youth drop‐in center in central Phoenix; Chrysalisis being awarded $12,500 to provide training and resources across all of their programs regarding domestic abuse that relates to the LGBTQ community; Hospice of the Valley will receive a grant of $5,000 to improve bereavement services for LGBTQ individuals and their families; and the Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (GPGLCC)is being awarded $5,000 to continue their compilation of a Business Equality Index that evaluates businesses and valley government employers to measure their commitment to equal treatment of their LGTBQ employees and provide guidelines for establishing an inclusive workplace.

“Each of these organizations submitted grant proposals that addressed specific needs within the LGBTQ community,” said Bill MacDonald, Chairman of Phoenix Pride’s Grants Committee. “The grants review process weighed proposals based on a series of criteria including the proposal’s long‐term impact to the community and the future sustainability of the project.” In its third year,the Pride Community Grants Fund, administered by Arizona Community Foundation, has awarded over $90,000 to valley nonprofits that provide services to assist the LGBTQ community in Maricopa County. “Organizations often struggle to find grants to develop capacity, especially in these economic times,” says Brandi Sokolosky, Executive Director of Phoenix Pride. “The Pride Community Grants Fund was established to be a resource to organizations and agencies that need help developing their organizational capacity, and ensuring their future growth and sustainability,”
