Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS

The Southwest Center serves over 30,000 Arizonans annually through its programs and services, and has been one of the leading health service providers for the Arizona LGBTQ+ community since its founding in 1990 as Phoenix Body Positive. The Center offers STI screening, HIV prevention and support, health education, nutrition services, behavioral health, medical and supportive case management, health & wellness programs, LGBTQ+ friendly primary medical care, nutrition services and an on-site vitamin shop, family support services, and community outreach initiatives located in downtown Phoenix at the Parsons Center for Health and Wellness. Nearly 80% of those who receive direct services from SWHIV are low-income and about half live at or below the federal poverty level. The Center’s goal is to provide a safe space for culturally appropriate and financially accessible medical and support services.

Aunt Rita’s Foundation

Since 2005 Aunt Rita's Foundation has operated in Phoenix, Arizona as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, but has a rich history dating back to the 1980's. In 1986 three individuals founded Aunt Rita’s Foundation in the beginning years of the epidemic. They saw in the mid 80’s a lack of resources and recognized something needed to be done, as they watched close friends die from the disease with nowhere to turn.

Randy Schrock, Gary Mangum and Skip O’Neill set on a humble quest to raise money in annual bake sales to provide relief for those living with, and dying from, AIDS. When federal government assistance through the Ryan White Care Act began in the early 1990's, funding became more plentiful and the need for Aunt Rita’s Foundation waned, and the final bake sale was held in 1996. In 2005, HIV/AIDS agencies came together and supported the return of Aunt Rita’s to help offset declining federal support.

Genuine Concepts has a rich history of creating unique environments, that quickly become favorites within their communities. Beginning with the opening of their first The Vig location in 2006, business partners, Tucker Woodbury and Jim Riley have created a stable of neighborhood restaurants, boutique bars and venues throughout Arizona, including five Vig locations, The Little Woody, Linger Longer Lounge, The McMillan, Cobra Arcade Bar, The Womack, Ladera Taverna y Cocina and Downtown Deli Tavern. Noel Guevara is the Coordinator of Special Events and Community Outreach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. She entered her sixth season with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018, planning the organization’s award-winning community efforts. She is a part of the team’s industry leading fundraising efforts that have made charitable contributions exceeding $55 million to nonprofit organizations throughout Arizona since 1997. The D-backs and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation projects and programs are improving our communities and creating opportunities for our most at-risk children and families.

Phoenix native Laura Pastor is a fifth-generation Arizonan, who graduated from St. Mary’s High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Arizona State University. Her grandparents and great-grandparents worked in Eastern Arizona’s mining communities, and both her parents began their careers as classroom teachers.

For four years, Laura was also a classroom teacher in the Roosevelt and Isaac Elementary School Districts, working primarily with at-risk students. During that time, she created a volunteer program to provide after-school tutoring, and authored an accountability program for teachers, students, and parents.

Laura is chair of the City Council Parks, Arts, Transparency & Education Subcommittee and serves on the following subcommittees: Neighborhoods, Housing & Development, Public Safety & Veterans and Transparency and Infrastructure.

Kristofer V. Lee

Landen C. L. Smith more widely known as Kristofer V. Lee is a male entertainer. He has called the Valley of the Sun home since June of 2006 and has been performing for 3 years. His first experience with drag came 10 years ago at a contest hosted by Mya McKenzie and he was hooked on the over the top looks, theatrics and stage personas of the entertainers drag attracts. Since then he has been a staple face around the drag community, and when he decided to take to the stage himself was already well established here in Phoenix. For Kristofer being Mister Phoenix Pride 2017 was beyond a dream come true. It was a vehicle that he found that gave his life purpose, and an amazing tool to affect change in the community. What the 16 months meant to him serving first as Mister Imperial Court Pride 2017 and then Mister Phoenix Pride 2017 was indescribable. Kristofer has won various awards such as the ArizonaDrag.com Diamond Crystal Rising Star of the Year Award in 2015, and the Male Performer of the Year Award in 2017. Currently, Kristofer is Prince Royale of Reign 13 for the Imperial Court of Arizona which allows him the ability to continue to be instrumental in giving back to various non profit organizations throughout our community.

Eva Angelica Stratton

Eva started getting involved in the LGBTQ+ movement in Lansing MI in 2006, where she attended her first Pride Festival. From there she soon became involved with the Michigan Pride Organization and many local pride organizations throughout Michigan. She moved to Phoenix from Grand Rapids MI in the summer of 2015 to expand her career in Non-Profit and LGBTQ+ Services. Eva became a part of the Phoenix Pride team during the year she served as Miss Phoenix Pride in 2017, where she worked with the community to raise over $40,000 for the Phoenix Pride Scholarship. In September of 2017, she was elected to the Board of Directors and served as the Audit Committee Chair as well as on the Education and Outreach Committee and now serves as Program Manager. Eva as also served with other non-profit organizations including Arizona’s own “Read Better Be Better”, where she mentored 7th graders to assist 3rd graders in literacy comprehension skills. She works hard for her community in hopes that one day our community won’t have to work so hard for their basic rights. Alek Robbins

Alek Robbins has been an active member within the Phoenix community since 2015 when he moved here from Southern California. Originally from a small town in Northern San Diego, he began volunteering with numerous organizations at a young age. Once he moved to the Phoenix area, he instantly dove in and began volunteering with non-profits throughout the valley. Some of his most notable accomplishments have been with Toastmasters where he has been awarded his Advanced Leader Bronze and Advanced Communicator Silver designation. He is currently attending Western Governors University to obtain his B.S. in Marketing Management and is expected to graduate in 2020.

GLSEN Phoenix works to ensure that all students in every K-12 school in Greater Phoenix are valued and treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Following a research-based approach, GLSEN Phoenix works in 150 schools supporting student-led efforts to positively impact their school communities, training educators and administrators to create and sustain safe, inclusive, respectful and healthful environments, and partnering with decision makers to ensure that comprehensive and inclusive safe schools policies are considered, passed and implemented.

Easley’s Fun Shop

We are a family business operated by the 2nd 3rd and 4th generations of the Easley family. We have been in business for 71 years and pride ourselves on our customer service and our love for our business. Bert Easley, 1st generation and our founder was a Vaudeville Magician and entrepreneur. He started a small magic store in downtown Phoenix in 1947. Bert then added Gag gifts, novelties, over the hill jokes and some mild adult jokes. 2nd generation had the foresight to add costumes, not only for rent, but for sale. 3rd generation developed the website and we are very excited to see where 4th generation takes us. Our store is over 15,000 square feet of wonderful fun. We stock hundreds of different kinds of wigs and hats.

The Balloon People

The Balloon People have been decorating many of the Valley's major events since 1994 - including all 3 Super bowls, several Fiesta Bowls and 2 CFP Championship Games. We are fortunate to be the preferred vendor at most of the top hotels and venues. This is something we work hard at attaining by pushing the envelope with new ideas, by venturing off to collaborate with some of the biggest names in the Balloon business, by attending conventions and always staying on top of what's trending now. Last year, we worked the Chicago Pride Parade which was amazing and we definitely got bitten by the Parade bug. We were determined to bring that excitement back to Phoenix parades, where we wet our feet in the Veterans Day Parade and actually won an award for best new entry! This was all in preparation for this year's Pride Parade which we were so excited to be a part of.... and we are beyond excited to have won an award for our entry!

Krazzy Latinos

Krazzy Latinos is a community based organization dedicated to fighting the spread of HIV & AIDS in the Hispanic & Latino community in the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro. Their work include health advocacy for Latinos, promoting HIV education, and developing prevention programs for Spanish speakers in the East Valley, including Mesa, Apache Junction, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe. Watch for the Krazzy Latinos events throughout the Phoenix Metro area and let's all work together to make sure there is never a language barrier in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Billy Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy is a well-known, widely recognized professional basketball referee, having served in that roll with the NBA since 1995-96 season. He has refereed for five NBA Finals games, called the 2010 FIBA World Championships and served as a basketball referee for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Some of you may be familiar with the stories of Mr. Kennedy’s having endured anti-gay slurs during his time with the NBA, and his resilience in overcoming the barbs he has faced in his role monitoring modern basketball greats and making tough calls, both on and off the court. Mr. Kennedy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix and went on to attend Arizona State University, so he is very much a product of our Valley of the Sun.

IGNITE Your Status

IGNITE is Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS’ outreach project to encourage and support the sexual health of the LGBTQ+ community and allies in Phoenix. You’ll find IGNITE’s diverse group of community leaders interacting with people throughout Phoenix’s LGBTQ+ community, distributing safer sex materials, volunteering at free HIV testing events, providing education & assistance with PrEP, and talking openly about safer sex, HIV and STIs. The project’s goal is to normalize the conversation and eliminate the stigma around safer sex and HIV.

Jordan Montgomery

Jordan Montgomery was born and raised in Southern California, until moving with his family to Phoenix in August 2015. When Jordan was about eleven or twelve, he realized that he felt attraction to other boys in his school. Being that this went against his Mormon faith tradition, Jordan vicious repressed any part of himself that would even hint of him being gay. This led to Jordan spiraling down into depression, his grades slumped and he pushed away all of his friends at school and church. Jordan’s parents were concerned with this drastic turn in behavior, and began investigating. Jordan’s mother eventually found Jordan’s journal and then realized that he was gay upon reading it. His parents then approached him about the journal, and he admitted to being gay. Since Jordan came out, he and his family have worked tirelessly to reform change within their Mormon faith culture, trying to make it more accepting and loving for LGBTQ+ people within their community. Jordan has volunteered at various organizations such as the Trevor Project for suicide prevention, the Encircle Resource center in Provo, Utah, the Ricky’s Retreat AIDS hospice, and the Affirmation Organization, which promotes love and acceptance within the Mormon community internationally.

Issac Roush

Issac Roush graduated from Millennium High School in Goodyear, Arizona. He served as a National Honor Society member and a leader on campus. He has participated in honors, AP, and IB-level courses, in order to earn a spot in the top 5% of her graduating class. Issac plans to study nursing at Barrett, the Honors College at ASU. He is excited to begin this new chapter and start her journey to becoming a nurse. In the future, Issac would like to become a nurse practitioner and focus on improving LGBT healthcare.

Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis has gone to Arcadia High School for the past four years. She has been involved in theater since the 3rd grade and has participated in her school's technical theater program throughout all of high school. She was also a part of her school's robotics team, something that inspired her interest in engineering. She will be attending Arizona State University at the Barrett honors college as a freshman this fall. She is aiming for a major in Computer Science/Software Engineering.

Andres Bautista

My experience growing up in Arizona as a queer and trans Latinx person shaped my politics and perspective on activism. For me, centering trans and gender non-conforming Latinx voices is important and the primary focus of my work in Arizona. I believe that it is very important to make the space that my community needs and to try my best to make sure that resources are accessible for everyone who seeks them. Currently, I am involved in activism as a member of the TRUTH council, and in the past I have worked alongside Planned Parenthood and other non-profits on LGBTQ+ topics. I hope to continue my work in the community and involve myself further at the University of Arizona.

Rocque Perez

A University of Arizona Wildcat studying both Political Science and Law, serving as a Student Body Senator under the Associated Students of the University of Arizona so that he can aid the students within his community and around the State of Arizona.

Krista Davis

Krista Davis is an artist living between the Canadian far-north and the desert Southwest, paying extra to check a suitcase full costumes and synthetic hair each time she travels between these two locations. She works primarily in video, animation and performance, and has presented her work at festivals and galleries internationally. Davis seeks projects that open up the possibility of new worlds, where new ideas and ways of being can emerge— ones that challenge our heteronormative culture to propose new ways of thinking about our relationships to each other, to the land and to the resources we pull from it. In efforts to build community, she co-founded the OUTeast Queer Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2011 and has produced a 5-year series of queer collaborative cabaret-style music/video/comedy/costume mash-up live performance shows. Davis received her BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and is an MFA Candidate at Arizona State University.

Tillie Jones

Tillie Jones is currently a sophomore at Northern Arizona University, majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Studio Arts. After her undergraduate degree, she plans to pursue a master's in Applied Criminology and her JD. She intends on becoming an attorney, in which she will work to help marginalized and disenfranchised people in the legal system.

Madison Piper

Madison Piper was born in Glendale Arizona and is a 2018 graduate of Sunrise Mountain High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, HOSA, and SMHS Marching Band throughout her high school career. Also, she is an ASU Dean’s Scholarship Recipient, enrolled at ASU as a Biochemistry Major for the 2018-19 school year with aspirations to become a Pediatrician.

In her spare time she enjoys volunteering. A few of the ways she gets involved in the community is through Hebrew High, (a Jewish youth studies group) and KEEN Phoenix (a buddy system program for special needs children) for the past four years. She was also given the wonderful opportunity to learn about philanthropy through participation in the Valley Leadership Youth Program in 2017.

Since the age of 10, Madison has had two sets of parents. One of them is her Mom and Step-Mom who have been happily married for 8 years.

Cesar Manjarrez

Born in Nogales, Arizona, Cesar Manjarrez received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Arizona, achieving high academic honors, including his musical involvement with the Fred Fox School of Music’s Wind Ensemble, Arizona Symphony Orchestra, Catalina Saxophone Quartet, and the Presidio Saxophone Quartet. Manjarrez’s musical career includes commercial music production and composition, from musical theater and animation to video game and film production. Manjarrez continues his education at Arizona State University towards a Masters in Software Engineering, current Vice President of Rossum Rumblers Robotics. Manjarrez found video game and app development company Studio Kupon in Fall 2017, whose members include C# developers, computer animators, digital artists, and writers. With Studio Kupon, Manjarrez aspires to mix the worlds of music, art and engineering, heavily inspired at an early age by entertainment companies Studio Ghibli, Nintendo, and SquareEnix. Studio Kupon is releasing their first iOS and Android game “Bully Burst” on December 21, 2018.

The Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

The Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (Grand Canyon Sisters/GCSPI) has the vision to unite, elevate, and empower the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) and Allied communities throughout Arizona. Our primary role and pledge is to provide operative support of every facet of the identified communities through fundraising, entertainment and education throughout Arizona. The family that created us is the one we honor with our Sacred Sisterly Identity. From our veils to our glitter we will be sure everyone knows how important it is to be an individual. We strongly believe that each of us has a path to follow. We all, at some point, find a way to help our sisters and brothers to have a rich and rewarding life without guilt and shame. By presenting ourselves in a comedic and flamboyant display, we demonstrate the principles of "life without guilt" to all we touch. We strongly believe that our lives belong to each of us to fill with love, laughter, self-respect and indeed indulgence. We host our own fundraising events throughout the year and are pleased to offer our presence to community events of others as time allows.

Adelante Healthcare

Adelante Healthcare (Adelante) is a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with deep roots in the greater Phoenix communities. Adelante was founded in 1979 in response to the unmet medical needs of migrant farm workers in the cotton fields and citrus groves of rural Maricopa County. Since then Adelante has grown to 9 health centers in the communities of Avondale, Buckeye, Central Phoenix, Gila Bend, Mesa, Peoria, Surprise, West Phoenix, Wickenburg and soon to open, Goodyear Health Center in November 2018. We serve over 62,000 patients annually for preventive family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, family dental services and many other primary health services.

Native PFLAG

PFLAG was founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation’s largest family and ally organization. PFLAG is a national non-profit organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals, their families, friends and straight allies. PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and full societal affirmation of LGBT people through its threefold mission of support, education and advocacy.
PFLAG has 400 chapters in major urban centers, small cities and rural areas in all 50 states. PFLAG Phoenix Native American Chapter, known as “Native PFLAG”, is the only chapter in the country that is focused on supporting Native American communities and emphasizes traditional Native American LGBT/Two-Spirit teachings. Our group was founded in June of 2011 and became a formal PFLAG chapter in August of 2013.

Grand Canyon Men’s Chorale

The members and organization of Grand Canyon Men's Chorale are a voice of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intergender community. We strive to be a premiere performing arts organization that unites, inspires, educates and entertains its members, diverse audiences, and supporting partners. Officially established in 1991, we have been delighting audiences primarily with its flagship chorus, Phoenix Metropolitan Men's Chorus. Under the direction of Marc Gaston, Executive and Artistic Director, the chorus supports artistic, cultural, social and equality partners throughout the LGBTI community. Phoenix Metropolitan Men's Chorus is a member of GALA Choruses (the international Gay & Lesbian Association of Choruses), and has participated in seven Gala Festivals.

Phoenix Theatre

Approaching our 100th season in 2020, Phoenix Theatre creates exceptional theatrical experiences by using the arts to articulate messages that inspire hope and understanding. As the largest producing regional theatre company in the Valley, Phoenix Theatre creates intimate, world-class experiences for a modern audience, with nearly 400 top quality performances produced, presented, or hosted on three stages for more than 100,000 guests every season. We place theatre arts in service to the community – to create, train, heal, entertain and inspire. We value theatre as a place where people can be accepted regardless of race, creed, orientation or color. Theatre lives where we wish the whole world lived. By inspiring empathy and the ability to see things from another’s point of view, we encourage qualities that lead to visionary leadership and build communities in which we are proud to work and live.

one n ten

one•n•ten is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to serving and assisting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth. We provide youth with tools to improve self-esteem and self-acceptance. Youth range in age from 14 to 24. We create a safe space, mentally and physically, for youth of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our weekly discussion groups cover a wide range of social, educational, health and community issues. Youth with particular needs have the option to speak with peers or volunteers one-on-one, in a supervised setting. We offer resources for healthy living and making healthy choices, as well as fun social networking opportunities that develop leadership skills.

Phoenix Gaymers

The Phoenix Gaymers were founded in 2006 in our board member Shane Cooper-Blissett's living room. He shortly after combined forces with board member Russ Hawkins to form a united Gaymer organization that has grown to the non-profit community building team that it is today.

Phoenix Gaymers believe in a more interactive Phoenix LGBTQ+ community. As LGBTQ+ people, we understand the challenges to our equality, health, and empowerment, and we strive to strengthen each other through service, charity, education, and fellowship. Through community events and partnerships, Phoenix Gaymers creates new opportunities to connect with LGBTQ+ people through gaming and reinforcing positive relationships in our LGBTQ+ community in Phoenix.

We estimate that we serve between about 100 to 200 members of the Phoenix LGBTQ+ community each month through our programming opportunities. Through regular social media updates,comprehensive presences on MeetUp and Facebook, and weekly events at alternating venues throughout the Valley, we reach approximately 1,500 people in the Phoenix LGBTQ+ community and other Gaymer groups in large metro areas through the U.S.

Imperial Court of Arizona

The Imperial Sovereign Empire of Arizona is a non-for-profit organization striving to unite the Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bi-Sexual and Heterosexual communities through charitable fundraising events to meet the needs of all. The Imperial Court hosts two distinct types of events. Benefits for Arizona based charities or organizations and fundraisers which go to cover the Court's operational expenses. The type of event will always be clearly labeled on posters and advertising so the public will always be aware of where their donations are going. When the Court hosts a benefit the public can rest assured that 100% of all funds raised at the benefit will go to the selected charity. The Court does not split donations as some organizations might to cover their event expenses. Beneath the crowns and bling, beat the hearts of real people. People who care and want to make a difference in the Community. We invite everyone to join us in our fun and antics as we strive to do good. In the last 12 years we have raised over $323,000 for our community. With the help of all of you, we are able to make a true difference in our community.
